I could have gotten ahead in my work, even after realizing that I did have BORG play rehearsal (for my one scene- I think I'll be able to manage: it's basically a slightly hammed up straight-man.) and then spending some time talking- it was a chance I don't get too often, and quite worthwhile. Rehearsal was fun- probably because I was mostly watching. It was clearly a bit overwhelming for some of the major characters. That sort of intense attention and work is difficult, when you're not used to it, and even when you are. I know how long it took me to get used to it in orchestra settings, and then the attention was turned on me much less often, if just as intensely (if not more so, in youth orchestra) when it was. I miss it, in some ways, even though I didn't like the attention when I got it, and still don't, quite. But hte atmosphere of knowing it would happen on occasion, and having that group to work for and with is worthwhile. I love Brass Ensemble, and we have lots of fun- but there isn't that same quality to it: we don't push ourselves enough: we don't know how and we don't have time, any of us. That gets frustrating.
Don't think I mentioned it last time, so here it is: I'm quite excited in a very preliminary way about my research project and eventual paper for Biblical Ritual Cult and Magic: I'm talking about "The Woman in the Tub", aka one of the visions in Zechariah 5. So I get to talk about a mix of views of women, impurity, evil, and comparisons with other cultures, etc. The idea of a good paper does excite me: there's so much I can do, and there's only so much that's been written on it: I won't be quite just copying other people's ideas. There's a real thrill to that, even if I'm only talking about a few strange and cryptic lines in a minor Prophet.
Eep. HaMakor is still down a person. If anyone knows someone who can pick up choreography quickly, and looks pretty decent in an Israeli dance piece and might be interested- let me know? Pretty please with a cherry on top?
