Last night we did indeed hang fish. I was impressed with the crew who showed up- 5 folks who got there in time, plus one who was just a hair too late (he arrived less than a minute after we hung our last fish) and one who came by just out of pure curiosity. Interestingly, everyone who showed up was male- kind of funny that way. I don't know if it was the nature of the activity, the way I wrote my reminder, or just who happened to be free, but there it was. We even had a similar number of fish and quantity of string (thanks, I seem to remember to
thevortex or at least someone in his room who was throwing it out several weeks ago.) We also, hwoever, found a bunch of
nuqotw's yarn from last year. So we hung a few fish on that too. The insane glee that results from doing something that ridiculous caught on after a short while of folks being a bit confused about why they were out there doing this with me anyways- it was a fun transition to watch. Afterwards, a bunch of folks appended back to my room and played Fluxx, or in Dave's and my case, watched them play Fluxx (which I've decided is definitely more fun than playing), for a nice bit. But I've now written an entire paragraph about hanging fish from a tree, so I shall simply wish you all a belated merry fishmas, and cease.
Shabbat was nice- lacking in much sleep at the proper times (I went to bed just around 4 am), but with a nice Long nap in the afternoon.
However, jsut prior to Shabhat, Marvin (my computer) threw fit, I called UNET, they said I needed a new hard drive, and I told this to my folks. So Mom called the tech people, and I was going to need to call them this morning, or last night. But
thevortex was over here briefly, saw the sign on my door (on the piece of paper that I have up as a white-board replacement) that I was computerless, went to turn it on to see what was wrong with it, and well, it just turned on. So, back it up I shall (Put what I could onto the 2 disks I had last night, and the parents shall be bringing some CDs today), and maybe things will be fine. Doubtful, but a possibility. ANd so, at least for now, I'm writing this from my own room. I have a feeling that, like one smaller prank that Marvin played last year, which was solved when a hallmate of mine sat down in front of him and started fiddling with an utterly unrelated control that I hadn't even known existed- Marvin just wanted some attention from someone who actually knows how to use computers. And since he can't tell me any other way (Imagine a box popping up on my screen "Maya, can you please get someone in here to fiddle with my controls and provide me with attention?"), he just threw a fit- like babies do. And since computers can sort of communicate, but not well- it's like communicating with a 2ish year old- they understand more than they can say, so they get really cranky about it
My folks will be here in about an hour and a half to help me pack up with I don't directly need, and take it either to my Mom's friend's house, or home. They're wonderful. And luckily, I have a Mother's Day present for Mom, courtesy of the BORG auction a while ago. First time I've managed that in a while...
