On the lighter sides

Other than that disappointing news, today was pretty amusing. I had the first of two pre-commencement/graduation (I'm not sure which is the preferred term: they seem to use them interchangably, so go figure.) meetings/rehearsals. For silly sorts of organizational details, it wasn't bad. THe lady who ran it was pretty darn amusing- very New York-y. And it was pretty quick. Apparently I'll be ushering around the VIP section up in front- should be amusing, or something like that.

Afterwards, I waited somewhat impatiently for thevortex to figure out his schedule, and for fleurdelis28 to finish her exam and call me back. But after all sorts of chaos, including a phone interview that kept not-happening, and a trip to the bookstore, with pauses on the way back to talk to Dave and then to Ed, and assorted other circumstances, we finally set off. thevortex and I went to the Judaica store, and he put on a very amusing show as a guy buying a set of cheap tfillin for travelling, complete with attempts to check things with me in a way that wasn't completely blunt about the fact that I was the one really buying the tfillin- although I'm sure the guy selling them knew. But- I now own tfillin, I just need to learn how to actually wrap them. Worse comes to worst, I just show up with them to morning minyan at home and ask for help. Or I go looking for instructional videos... Afterwards, we had "lunch" (at something like 3:30 in the afternoon). Overall, it was a nice day.

ANd now I get to figure out the world of tfillin wearing. I'm hoping that having them will motivate me to wear them, which will mean davening more frequently, even over the summer. I've been wanting to, and I'm not terribly good at motivating myself to do so on my own- having another obligation that goes along iwth them- maybe it'll get both done. Often having two things around the same time/subject gets them both done when neither might get done on its own- it's like remembering birthdays. I remember several pairs of birthdays by their relationships to each other, when I wouldn't remember either one without the other. So they serve as a mutual mnemonic of sorts.
