Dinner with
fleurdelis28 was lovely- very much fun to get away and hang out, even though I made not-the-best choice of dishes to order. Shan't get that one again. And well, I got to let my Lord of the Rings interest out of the drawer for a while, not that it stays there all that well usually.
Dancing was a Lot of fun, even if the programming was, once again, lousy, and someone crossed off my request without it being played (I'm guessing they thought that something else that was played was that, and thought they were doing the right thing by crossing it off so that Rafi wouldn't get confused). (Reminds me again of how one of the perpetually amusing things about IFD is that there may be sketchy guys, although not so many in Boston, and there may be unpleasant people on occasion, but one never has to worry about one's things, or that someone will slip something into one's drink. The dance culture may be strange, it may be full of social incompetents, and a weird mix of American intellectuals/nerds and Israelis looking for someplace comfortable, many of whom aren't intellectually self-directed at all, but it's an over-all friendly and close group of people, even when politics make everyone hate each other.) We had a bunch of real beginners- unusual for Monday nights, since we don't really play beginners' stuff, so I got asked to teach a Very easy dance. And 2 of the beginners were a couple with 4 really adorable daughters, ages 9, 7, and twin 3 year olds. Oh my goodness they were adorable. One of my friends got adopted by one of the littlest ones. It was just a real high point of the night. Hopefully they'll come back. ANd over that, two of my friends from two rather different other locals (Hartford and Portland) were in town, and the guy from Portland will be around 3 of the next 4 Mondays, so I should see him again. He does shlep around a lot, depending on the year, so it isn't terribly unusual, but still- having more friends around is always nice.
Today- lots to do, a Hebrew presentation to finish, essays to write, swing rehearsal, insanity. Off I go.
