I should be asleep, but several people's posts were making me think about favorite books when I was young, and favorite rereads. Of course, I'll reread almost anything that I liked the first time through, even things that objectively were poorly written, poorly plotted or the like. It has words- I'll read it. Even more so, if it has words and isn't too scary (hence a prime virtue of re-reads), I'll read it.

So, some old favorites, starting from when I was Very young:
The Little Chalkman- I forget the author, but his name is Very slavic, I think Czech.
Lion- similar predicament, but many of you have heard about it
The Oz books, minus book 14 which I only read much later, and didn't like so much: his editors did a lousy job finishing it
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
Most of Asimov's science fiction, primarily, but not only, the Foundation related books
lots of R. A. Heinlein, at probably unfortunately young ages (4th-6th grades)
Dune and sequels, especially God Emperor of Dune
I too (like [livejournal.com profile] hannahlin had a running enjoyment of Mercedes Lackey, and still find her stuff fun to reread, even if it isn't very good. Ditto Marion Z. Bradley. Silly me. Had a fascination in 6th grade with Dragonlance. ACquired a sadly large number of said books.
The FIve Books of Miriam, somewhat later on: it was my book of choice for when I was very early to religious events for quite a while.

List probably to be continued...
