I have reached that point in an evening in which I am perfectly awake, but need to concetrate in order to cut photos in a straight line. I.e. no matter what that sounds like, it means that I've been working on my photo album for the last couple of hours, and with my style of album construction, that means a lot of trimming (although much less than it used to. My average number of pictures per page has gone down from 6ish (a pure guess) when I started my first album to 3-4 now.). But I've gotten up to about the end of first semester this last year. And I am firmly convinced that
zodiacmg and my (temporarily due to age) smallest relative are trying to take over my photo album. No, neither are here, but they're a bit over-represented in the stack of my photos waiting to be put into the album.
Shabbat was interesting- mostly positively. Dinner with the local chabadniks was generally pleasant if rather loud and well, over-tired. They had let their three youngest children, aged 5-8, (and the older two were away at summer camp) stay up for shabbos dinner, and it was an hour past their bedtime by the time we sat down for dinner. The kids were generally adorable, especially when I first got there and they were waiting at the door for me to show up (and were confused that I wasn't staying over, since I was a shabbos guest), and while we were reading a book together while their parents got ready- it was a book of idioms with literal illustrations, so I got to do a lot of explaining of why things were funny. But by the end of the night, the boy was showing the pictures to his father, complete with explanations for some of the pictures that he hadn't known when he looked at them with me. By part way through dinner, the youngest was starting to fall apart around the edges and then some, but it was a nice meal. Afterwards I got walked home by the rabbi, during which we had a conversation in which I got told that I was "an orthodox girl in the conservative movement", which from him seemed to be a compliment- although myself, it just sounds confusing. Whenever the movement discussion comes up, and it always does, I get to hear some really interesting propaganda. I know it's his job, but- it can be awfully see-through. But they're nice people, and it was very nice to have a shabbos meal with other people and with other people for whom it was also a shabbos meal at that.
Took a very long nap this afternoon, and therefore am not tired yet, although I'm getting up quite early to head to the train into NYC tomorrow morning. Guess I'll go do another page or two of photo album and then try and get myself to bed.
