  1. bookworms:
Well, I am a bookworm, colloquially, and therefore like other bookworms. And the notion of Real bookworms who eat through books is sort of a terrified fascination sort of topic- animals that actually have to destroy books in order to live? Horrid.
  2. creative ritual:
I find very interesting what people do in order to make their lives meaningful, and how that fits or doesn't fit with the religious tradition from which they're working, and how that fitting-or-not is perceived. THe problem is how to study it... Sociology is interesting, but it frightens me a little, somehow. Makes studying contemporary halakha a bit more appealing, those being my two contestants as things stand. Also easier to do.
  3. folk dancing:
One of the gizillion of ways I put myself down as interested in IFD and its more authentic relatives. I guess if I have any interest in people randomly finding me online, I'd want it to be people from the IFD community or the like. In fact, one of the only 2 people on my friends list who isn't someone I've met in person/is a friend of friends of mine is another dancer.
  4. ipa:
Mom taught a phonetics class at SCSU (Southern CT State University) a handful or so of years ago, and I was her guinea pig a whole bunch, which involved learning IPA, and it was just Fun. Also useful for notetaking on occaison.
  5. kashrut:
First off, I really like using appropriate Hebrew noun forms in English. Second of all, kashrut in a kitchen is much more complex than it sounds like, so I think about it a good deal.
  6. minhag:
I'd love to be a walking catalog of interesting minhagim someday. I'd love to Write a book of interesting minhagim someday with a how-to section and origins and all that, written for the public. I'm all in favor of providing ways for people's religious lives to be both meaningful and quirky.
  7. philosophy:
Well, it's fun to talk about until I get over my head and/or ridiculously frustrated. But I'm dating a philosophy major, for one (although I had this up before we started dating, I'm fairly sure), so it's a good thing I like it. I just always need to clarify that although I'm often interested in philosophy, especially as it related to theology, I am Not a philosopher in any sense of the word.
  8. scifi:
Blame my uncle: he left a bunch of books at his parents' home for too long and they got sick of having them by the time I was in 2nd grade (he's 10 years younger than my mom: he was 27ish at the time) and they gave them to me, and I liked them. And read many of them far too early in my development.
  9. taking deliciously long walks:
They're pleasant, they're nice ways to socialize without sitting still for ages and without having something Too distracting going on either. And they're also good for thinking.
  10. used book stores:
I've worked in one, before I was legally old enough to work (I got paid in books instead of money, and it was absolutely fabulous for me all around), volunteered and hung out in another, and spent lots of time in several others. THey're happy places, and the cause of the frightening quantity of books that I own considering that I'm 21.
