Today started poorly- I'd neglected to turn on my alarm clock, so I didn't wake until 10 minutes before my first class, so I dressed, dealt with basic hygiene and hurried to class- and did make it on time at least. But I felt rather bad for missing minyan. But well- having gotten the extra sleep probably wasn't a bad thing for me.
And then I went grocery shopping during lunchtime, and returned to find a friend's younger brother who has always struck me as a very good guy coming into JTS to have lunch, and so I brought my things up to my room and joined him for lunch, and it ended up with me making plans to make shabbos lunch, and a possible activity for Saturday night- he's in a play, it might be nice to go see it.
This evening I finally made it to one of the interseminary dialog meetings that happen every few weeks. It was really, really interesting and a lot of fun. The discussion was structured through bowls of quotes in the middle of each table, and each person would pull a quote and read it and talk about their response to it and how it matched or didn't match their faith tradition, and there would be discussion, sometimes branching off in all sorts of interesting and different directions. I learned a lot, and the people were very, very nice. I'm really looking forward to going again. And then on the way back, I think I found some eventual plans to go contra dancing at some point with a friend from JTS and one of the folks from Union Theological.
