This morning's big highlight was that my boss told me that I no longer need to leave books "sticking out"- i.e. on their sides, because I wasn't making any mistakes- and that when I come across books sticking out, I should check them and put them the right side up myself if they're right, or of course fix them if they're wrong. But well, I'm a sucker for praise.
Also, I came across two really interesting looking books to read- one about Baghdadi Jews in Burma under the British, and the other about Jews in Arab countries during the Holocaust. I think I gave up on the memoir by the gay Jew from Texas- there were a few interesting bits, but it didn't live up to the few pages I read at random when I first came across it. It's been a long time since I've had the chance to come across random books at work, and then have the time to read them. It's something I loved about my first job (working in a second hand bookstore, being paid in books because I wasn't old enough to be legally employed and paid), and well- these books aren't mine, but I still get to read them...
Had barbeque with folks at
mbarr's this evening- was much nicer than the option I'd considered of dancing at the Y. And next week, a bunch of us may hit the SCA dance practice- not my favorite style of dance, but would be fun with friends. While at said barbeque, I learned to crochet in straight lines- at least I *think* that I'm doing it correctly. We'll see how it turns out. I think I started with things a little too tightly for the yarn I'm currently using, but well- I can always pull it out and start over. Still, it's rather exciting.
In between the two, there was learning. And then there was mincha, where I'm slowly getting the hang of gabbaying, although it still feels a little awkward- especially trying to find someone to lead davening, since most of the folks there are professors, etc. A little stronger sense of confidence would help.
