Some highlights from today:
1. The grandparents showed up rather earlier than expected and decided to rake. This involved some practical raking, and also my grandfather not quite realizing where the leaf-pile was, and starting one somewhere else because he thought he was at the right place.

2. Actually spending some time with the grandparents. But not a real lot- at least, not in a communicative way, because

3. I was a 4-year-old magnet. This actually meant that I spent a heck of a lot of time with my completely adorable 4 year old cousin. She is affectionate (her favorite make believe game seemed to be pretending to be a kitten- or a baby cat, as she insisted on saying), energetic (still very much a fan of being held and bounced up and down and occasionally being jumped with or turned upside-down). And along with all of that- I was holding her and we were looking at the magnets on the fridge, some of which are magnetic poetry, and after she took one off and gave it to me, I read it, and put it back, and then she wanted to see what each of the other words were. It was pretty exciting.

4. The meal was really good. Mom made a peanut-butter soup that was surprisingly good- especially since a. I don't like peanut butter and b. it had lots of tomatoes and I don't like tomatoes in soup generally. There was also squash coated in olive oil, lemon juice and mint and roasted that I liked. And the miraculous kosher, gluten-free, dairy-free cake actually tasted quite good and felt like real food, not hard as rocks. Admittedly, the first frosting we made ended up burnt, but then we went with an old standard that worked excellently- and even my very iffy cake-frosting skills made it look nice.

5. The day seemed oddly timeless- around 5:30pm it felt like it was more like 8, and now that the parents are asleep, it feels rather earlier than it actually is. The whole thing is rather puzzling. But I also got two Happy Thanksgiving phone calls, and have made plans to see [livejournal.com profile] doctor_nine tomorrow for lunch and such. So on the planning front, all has gone pretty well, I think.
