Shabbat and a Dinner Party

Shabbat was quiet: dinner with the parents, an early night to bed, shul, a walk with Dad, a very long nap. I got my usual welcome from the folks at Beth Shalom, which is gratifying- maybe it's that they know me for me, and not for my parents or my childhood that makes it nice. THe service is not what I'd call the way I prefer it, but the people do much to make up for it, and for the lousy sermons.

We had friends of Mom's over for dinner: pleasant. We hadn't seen them in ages, and somehow we managed to find what we could make that would be appetizing and kosher for Passover. It was nice conversation, and a good meal.

And of course, to prove once again that my folks are strange: Friday Mom and I went for a walk, and we walked by a squirrel skeleton with some bits of fur still on, but no flesh, caught in a bush. Mom detached the skull, and took it home. It's on one of our window ledges now. Only my mom...
