Another Day, Another Set of Insanity

Today was sort of crazy- lunch involved a lot of bowls of stuff (we decided to do baked potatoes with stuffings/toppings). And then the cheese for tomorrow's grilled cheese was supposed to show up in the morning, and didn't do so until 4pm. So tomorrow we do a heck of a lot of panning of grilled cheese.

This evening, we had a program on domestic violence as limud (Jewish study). By the end of the pogram, which was actually pretty good, the people on either side of me were upset for various reasons. Afterwards, I was talking to a friend and the director comes up, asks to talk to me, and then tells me that she noticed how I was comforting Steve (one of the people who was sitting next to me), and that she recognizes that I'm someone people talk to when they don't want to talk to her, and she appreciates it. It was a little weird, and not really what I had been wanting to hear right then.

I somehow managed to initially read it as meaning [We had a program about limmud as a form of domestic violence]. I suppose maybe if you spend so much time learning that you drastically neglect your spouse and familly?

Actually, there's a story in the Talmud about a scholar who spent so long learning that his wife dispaired, and he was going to go home for the yamim noraim, and he decided not to at the last minute, and she fell off her balcony and died.
