*giggle*

Was just leafing through a book I was cataloguing here at work, called "Your neighbor celebrates" from the 1960s or so, and there was a random picture of the chapel at Brandeis, for some reason accompanying the section on "Rabbis and Cantors". So once upon a time there were curtains behind the ark, and the menorah was up on the bima. Go know. It was just sort of incongruent.

Curtains? That's a shame -- those windows are the best thing about the Chapel.

Was the candle broken back then, too?

The candle looked just fine. They looked like pleasant enough curtains- but I too think the windows are much better. Especially early in the morning when the view occasionally looks like a ruined city, or at least something ancient and surreal.
