Today was my staff meeting prior to starting work next Monday- which means that I got up and drove myself to the shul at which I'll be working and back myself, and didn't get too obscenely lost at any point (although I took a number of wrong turns, pulled over to look at the map a few times, and once stopped and parked, thinking I'd gotten there and found myself at the local recreational center instead- but still, no Major losings-of-self) and I did it all without someone else navigating. For my own future reference though, I want to take the Right side of the fork on the way home. Oh yes, and Bacon street is the one with the green sign, where I can't actually see the street sign with the Name of the street from the direction I'm coming from. And relevant to the actual meeting- I like the two teachers I'll be working with, and the rabbi in charge of the Hebrew school. And it certainly Sounds like their program is significantly more successful and well-structured than that of the shul where I grew up and formerly was a JOAT. I'll be interested to see the differences- but I'm somewhat afraid that I won't know what is and isn't acceptable on-target-for-grade-level performance in this school. I suppose I'll learn from context, but it's never something I've been entirely sure of.

Growing up in my house combined with Linguistics last year is coming in quite handily for Biblical Hebrew class: it's making understanding some of the syllable formation related stuff a bit easier to assimilate. The Arabic is useful too. Maybe it wasn't a waste of time from a reasonable viewpoint after all. Well, I think I knew that already, but sometimes I wonder- I certainly don't have any functional use of the language.

I actually balanced my checkbook, mostly, today. It was a significant accomplishment- and surprisingly easy, considering how long I'd let it slide. It does amaze me how long it takes certain groups, mostly at school, to cash checks- from September to March in one instance. Now I see why that used to annoy people who wrote me checks so much when I didn't cash them for months on end...
