Must remember to wear my computer glasses more- they actually Do help my eyes avoid strain, and when I don't wear them for too long, putting them on the first time feels very much like my eyes aren't focusing- and making my eyes focus regularly with different prescriptions/lack there of is Good for my eyes. And they've been being mildly funky lately, so I'd better be a bit more diligent in this matter.

Met with another professor today to talk about graduate school- his suggestion was going via anthropology or finding someone who does Judaic studies with a real use of anthropological techniques. He says this just from hearing my interest is for a good bit in ritual. I'm not entirely sure that that really follows quite so much, but it is, I suppose, worth researching. Part of my hesitance is that while I enjoy such things, I really have a strong interest in involving text in my scholarship somehow. The thing is, I'm not sure I want to do straight text either. Really, I'm finding myself interested in the relations between text and real life- which since htat's what so much of Jewish text is- halakhic literature, makes things convenient. But I'm interested in both sides of the relationship: how text related to life and how life then relates back to text. I think. But well, so much of this stuff is so much fun, how do I really know what I find most interesting?

It can take up to a week (which, unfortunately, may include headaches and such) to get used to computer glasses and the switching between. One thing that I found to be helpful is that when you switch them, keep your eyes closed for a few seconds before looking through the new ones.

Huzzah!

what "two" do?

Hi M,
I also have the problem of loving working with two conflicting things; in my case, research/intellectual and working with people/public service. So, I've really been looking for a way to combine the two. I'm sure there is a way with you too. You might have to go through school and figure it out while you're going along, but having two vaguely related different interests will help you to get into a specific field. Good luck!
