Peace is nice
Shabbat was nicely peaceful. I sort of floated between different sorts of interactions, but almost all of it was smaller-group than usual, or in a different format. In general there was a bunch of meditative stuff, which I often enjoy, if done well. If done badly, it's just tacky. Hence my issue with it at the "meidtation service" my parents' shul does every Yom Kippur. That's always a mix between really lovely singing/poetry/talks and really tacky versions of the same. But it was something that was always very meaningful for me, or rather, the good parts were. It's something I miss about that shul- one of the few things. But it isn't worth the rest of it. Sometimes I'd like to import the few things I really liked to other places, but I know, intellectually, that it wouldn't work as well. Part of the thing about that service was that I knew almost everyone who participated- but then, I knew all the regulars there, so I knew something about what was coming from their choices, and that made it more meaningful.
But back on topic, as much as I have one... It was nice to vary the routine, without being lonely or be searching for what to do. It definitely helped that I found out Friday night, from my RA, sorry CA, that I won't be getting a random roommate after all- she took herself off the waiting list for housing. So I have my own room, at least for teh time being. So now I need some pillows for the other bed, I guess. And some more posters/drawings/other things hangable from walls. (So much for returning to that topic.)
And right now, I wish I had my sewing with me, I'd like something to keep my hands busy. I guess I should learn to knit or crochet or something. I just get to work on my sewing (read, slowly in process crazy quilt) so rarely that I don't usually think it's worthwhile to bring it to school. If we were at a farther point in costuming "Wyrd Sisters" I could sew for that, but we're not. Oh well- I'll have to find something else to do with my fingers. But what? Guess I'll start with what mending I have... ANd maybe I'll even get some reading done, even if that doesn't involve my fingers. If i had help, I could hem those jeans.. We'll see.
