Because I've been kvetching a lot lately, and because I remembered:
A handful of years ago, we were going to be getting together with a friend of my mother's from college, a man who is far from an academic, and earns his living as a masseur and a potter. This get-together was being scheduled for September or October, and he was looking at the calendar for a suggested date and made the comment "Wait, isn't that Yom Kaputz?". The response was, of course, a great deal of laughter, and the origin of a new holiday, in which people should exchange old and no longer wanted jewelry and broken appliances, and where it is also meritous to buy pottery. I don't remember what happened from there- for some reason or another I wasn't home when the actual get together took place, I have no idea why.
