I just went to bring some books back to the BORG library: things that were new to us and I cataloged recently, things I took out, etc. I got to the library and it was rather a disaster, so I spent some time straightening up, although I did a far from complete job. So just some thoughts resulting from that.
1. BORG needs a summer volunteer to maintain the library over the summer as much as possible, so that returns don't turn into a huge heap, and people don't leave books all in the wrong places, etc. I expect there ought to be someone from BORG around in the summer at least most years. It would make a big difference for the new librarian's job in the fall, and for anyone else on campus trying to use the library over the summer.
2. I was Chief Cook and Librarian for 2 years, and I never got a hang of the outside part of the library: it needs some work, and a way to get people to realize it's there and part of BORG.
3. BORG needs signs: preferably laminated ones, seriously. Especially one to mark "New to BORG, Uncataloged" books, the short stories section, the children's books section, a better description of the rules about the library and a new copy of the don't sit on the shelves sign which has gone the way of all things, and signs for outside: hardcovers, TV and Movie related books, regular fiction, mysteries, etc. There should also be signs for the returns box, and maybe a donations box.
4. The BORG website Still needs reviews. I tried to run a competition for them over this last year, and not a single one was submitted. Maybe summer would be a good time to write one (hint hint)... Rewards might well be forthcoming, at least from me, if not from BORG.
5. BORG is a. missing many of its 9ish copies of The Forever War, I only saw 4 there, and b. there are 3 copies of A Canticle for Leibowitz now: perhaps that might be a worthwhile book for a club reading and discussion... I do worry that the club isn't as book-focused as it was. There are more short story volumes than I'd remembered. They ought to be more often taken advantage of.
