Today I had a visit from Steve, who I met at Lishma, and who has an incredible dedication to making pre-Shabbos calls. We had a pleasant quick visit and looked at a lot of photos, and then she came with me to ma'ariv and I found out that she knows one of my friends at JTS. My social world is far more interconnected than I thought, and I keep finding this out...
And then I just had an IM conversation with a friend from middle school and high school with whom I hadn't spoken in a while. She's doing well, has a new boyfriend, and sounds pretty happy. Interestingly, when I asked if she'd be visiting her folks at all over the next few weeks her response was "I'm old, sorry". It struck me as odd, as most folks I know at JTS spend holiday time with their families when possible, and/or with their in-laws. And this Steve's family is Italian and quite accustomed to large family get-togethers. So I was rather surprised.
