Adventures and Such

Steve came to visit me yesterday afternoon and over into this morning, when I dragged her (not that she objected) to minyan. It was a remarkably cheerful visit: we hung out and talked, and then we made dinner (lentil soup and latkes- without a recipe), which was far too much food for two people, and so we knocked on some doors until we found a couple people to share dinner with us. Dinner was good, and between the four of us we managed to eat everything- and we learned to play thesaurus: a cheerful but frustrating game where one person picks a word in the thesaurus and everyone else tries to guess all the synonyms. Sadly, the thesaurus that we found in the Brush library was sort of odd in its word choices: it included a bunch of words that didn't seem like they were synonyms at all, and didn't include a number that I thought were quite obvious. Dinner also involved a truly impressive quantity of scare quotes.

This morning after minyan I was invited along on an adventure to the lower east side/chinatown. We wanted a lot, quite pleasantly, and I acquires a couple of things from a $.99 store, and a scarf, and we had knishes for lunch. We had a bit of trouble refinding the subway at the end, but eventually we found our way to where we'd started, give or take.

And tonight I think I'm joined some folks for a concert. In the meantime, I should get useful things done, but I'm feeling tempted to nap. We'll see what happens next.

Weirdness, Coincidence and More Reproduction By Folks Around Here

1. Weirdness
There was rather odd IM conversation earlier this evening. It definitely included descriptions of imaginary characters with one person and a decision that I did indeed know the other person I was talking to well and that this made me happy and that that made Steve happy etc with the other person at the same time.

2. Coincidence
I went out at 10:40ish to aquire some snack food, as I didn't want an apple, and as I'm heading home for a bit tomorrow, that was about all I had. One block up, I ran into Steve and Steve on their way back from a Chanukah party, and Steve gave me her leftover-junk-food bag, because she didn't really want to eat it. So I turned around and walked back home, and tagged along on a second candle-lighting with her, Steve, and [livejournal.com profile] smartphil. And then there was more 1. Weirdness, in that we found a candle that had no wick, even after the two gentlemen ganged up on it with their shamashim to try to melt it to find the (apparently non-existant) wick. Then they tried to melt it to some of the other candles until Steve claimed to be the messenger of G-d and made them stop. (All this without alcohol or even excess sugar.)

3. Reproduction
After candles were lit and such, we were looking at some pictures when Steve-who-lives-down-my-hall came in and let us know that congratulations were in order. As he's already married (his wife lives in Wisconsin, he'll be joining her as soon as he can), we correctly figured that his wife is pregnant- she's due in June.
