Somehow this week has been substantially more busy than those preceding it. Today the executives didn't want to lead davening, and I was the only student there, so I led psukei d'zimra while "gabbaying", and Rabbi Lebeau was wonderful and took over for Shacharit. Tomorrow,
gimmelgirl is going to be my saving grace- that, and I have someone to do the Torah reading. Work was about the same old, except that I got to spend my last hour just checking other people's shelving rather than doing any of my own.
I had had plans to meet a friend for coffee/tea, which was going to mean that it was wedged in between two things, which is rarely a good idea with Steve- he tends to show up late and talk for a long time. But it turns out that he had to reschedule a lesson for today, so we rescheduled for tomorrow, when I should have more time as well. Lucky timing, that.
So instead I napped, and somehow messed up with my alarm clock, and so I slept until just past the time I was supposed to be meeting Steve2 to do some learning. Luckily, he keeps himself amused pretty well, and we only ended up starting 5-10 minutes late.
From there, I met
mbarr and
taylweaver at an SCA dance practice, which was an interesting event. First off, I showed up at 7:15 to an session that was supposed to start between 6:30 and 7:00, and was the third person there- I guess all small dance sessions are the same that way. THe dances were surprisingly easy as far as steps- but they were Very easy to end up rushing. I'm just not used to holds that last that long (even in the fast dances). There was an element of playfulness that was rather cheering, and some rather amusing interaction with one's partner- the partner dances manage the sort of interaction one can get with newer IFD couples' dances with the simplicity of actual folk dances, give or take. It's something I've missed this year, between the older Israeli dances not having quite as much of that, and not having so many available dance partners with whom I really click in NYC right now. It was fun- I think I'd go mad if I did it every week for long- I'm too used to more complicated footwork, etc, but it's something I might well start doing more often than once every 5 years... And occasionally getting out of the all-Jewish-all-the-time community is likely good for me, even if this wouldn't quite count as general society either.
