Dancing this evening (following a day that sort of wasn't- I did some usual Sunday stuff, and slept a lot, as I got to bed quite late last night) was rather amusing. The program was solid- it wasn't the dancing itself that was funny. It was one of those nights when suddenly I was one of those people whom people were following, and needed me or one of a couple of other specific folks to be dancing, or they wouldn't feel confident enough to do the dance (which was odd a couple of times, because clearly there were people who Knew the dance- but still, in one case, an older lady came over to Steve and I, and said that they needed "a leader" to come dance). I did however, get an invitation to watch a conversion of an infant that Steve2, who's a cantor, is doing sometime in the next few weeks.
There was also this really cute and sort of amusing mother-daughter pair who came, who were really lovely. They aren't religious, but for some reason the daughter is going to a Beis Ya'akov boarding school in Rochester (they live fairly close to NYC). She was clearly a little socially different, but quite pleasant and sweet, and the mother was really lovely.
The odd part of the night was that somehow in transit I lost my kippah, and didn't notice until well into the night, at which point the whole thing was rather disconcerting- I haven't been out without one for rather a long time, besides a couple of fire drills last year. Steve of course told me afterward that he noticed- but he didn't say anything. Go figure.
