Today's most magical moment: There were fireflies in the courtyard when I was coming home from learning with Steve. It's been a long time since I've seen fireflies.

This morning I attended some lectures on Jews with Disabilites at Chovevei Torah, that were part of their minimester on the topic, but since [livejournal.com profile] boroparkpyro had emailed me with the information about it, and that it was open to other rabbis and rabbinical students of all denominations, and I had the morning free, I went. It was really quite interesting, and nice to be in that sort of environment. Folks were quite friendly, and I learned some interesting things, and heard some interesting ideas. Interestingly (or maybe not) the schedule/program was almost entirely inaccurate. Theoretically, the morning was supposed to involve two lectures by the same gentleman (who was indeed the first speaker), both with quite interesting topics. Instead, he began with a different topic (also interesting), and covered a few different things (holiday-related mitzvot, reactions people who can't perform them might have, ways of dealing with those reactions, and halakhic leniencies available for such situations; the use of various devices used to aid one on Shabbat, especially in relation to hotza'ah and hashmal- carrying and electricity). Then another gentleman who had been coming to listen in (who is quite the name in that community) spoke for a bit, then the gentleman in charge of the Beit Midrash there spoke, and then another very prominent rabbi spoke. So a very different morning than I expected, but still quite worthwhile.

I spent the afternoon working in the library, and the evening, my usual learning with Steve.
