Travel Stuff Galore

The drive back to the Boston area went splendidly, except for the very end, where I got off the Pike onto 128 South instead of North. This would have been just fine- a small detour, except that there was ridiculous traffic coming off the first exit and towards Riverside. Luckily rather than continuing to head in that direction, I just was aiming to get back on the highway- but still I was stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic for quite a while and never found out the reason. I hope everything is ok.

[livejournal.com profile] zodiacmg left me a message on my cellphone saying that his plane was scheduled to take off about half an hour late for some reason that didn't quite make sense (something about booting people from an earlier flight because there were too many people, but I don't see why that would hold up a plane- maybe something to do with people needing to get on the plane coming from somewhere else?). So he ought to arrive at Logan somewhere around 4:30- so I'm taking the bus down there in a bit over an hour. I'm confused by the directions offered by the mbta trip planner- the 553 gets me very close to South Station, so why are they having me take another bus for 3 minutes to the orange line to the blue line when I could just take the silver line? I should ask around, but I don't know whom to ask- I don't think the weird tunnel stuff would have shut down the silver line... And why take a bus for 3 minutes to someplace that seems to only be a few blocks away? I don't know if I should take their advice or just go do the silver line thing and hope for the best.

Having just done this last week, I'd say take the Silver Line. The tunnel stuff does cause a bit of a delay on the 553 if traffic is bad, but the Silver Line goes every 10 minutes, and since you don't have a firm deadline it should be fine. The MBTA planner is occasionally just weird.

Yeah, the planner doesn't seem to do "walk for a bit" very well. Just walk the two blocks to the silver line.

Oh, it does walk a bit ok, it just thought that instead I should wait for another bus, then walk a few blocks to get to Downtown Crossing instead, then take the orange line to the blue line...

Despite all the MBTA's advertising of the shiny new Silver Line, it hasn't quite integrated it into its planning schedules yet. If taking the silver line makes sense to you when you look at the map, do that.
