Wyrd Sisters now has a cast! After last night, when I was afraid that we'd have absolutely no cast whatsoever, and I'd end up with tons of small parts, and go crazy, because I can't act, and the idea of doing so more than for a couple of lines really frightens me- well, people showed up to audition today. And we made casting decisions, and we have a cast. I only have one small role, the Chamberlain, and that's only 3 lines or so. But I really like the way the cast turned out: it's a lot of people I like, a couple of people I'd like to get to know better, and a few people whom I like in small quantities, and will help me continue work on my patience. (There's Maya Trying to be an optomist. It's an arteficiality though. The translation: I hope I don't get too fed up with them. If so, it'll be in here.) But I'm really looking forward to working on the play, scrounging props and costumes, making it all work, and getting to be bossy back-stage. (I'm stage managing, or co-stage managing or something. Not that I've never stage managed before, or even done running crew really. But...) It's going to eat up my time, but it's going to be fun, and Shabbat observance compatible (I think if not a majority than at least a third of the main cast is observant.)

I also really want to get in touch with Rabbi Judd from home (a former assistant rabbi at my parents' shul, whom I adore. She wrote a really interesting contemporary midrash from teh perspective of Moses' wife that I want to reread, and maybe share with the minyan. I remember really liking it when I heard it (Junior year of high school, I guess.) I don't know what I'd think of it now. But it would be a Very different Dvar Torah for the minyan, which usually gets Orin's compelling detail stuff, or human rights/volunteering harangues, and nothing else, of late. It would also be a great excuse to get back in touch with Rabbi Judd, whom I haven't seen in a while. So- I found her work phone number online, but not an email or something, that would make me more comfortable. So I'll look again, and browse around. Wait- she's working at Choate. I could get her email from Mr. Ventre (my former youth orchestra conductor, who is the music director at Choate).

SOmehow, now that I'm not in charge of anythign minyan related, I'm getting all these ideas of stuff for the minyan. WHereas while I was gabbai-in-training, I mostly just did the detail-work, and had relatively few ideas. I'm afraid I'm turning into one of those obnoxious minyanaires who push a lot. But they're Good ideas. Well, of course I'd think so...

As far as religious (sort of) stuff goes- I just bought and official BOO kippah. I find this somewhat amusing, in the larger picture. It's also black and unobtrusive, which could be useful. I may stick to my scarf for BOO davening anyways- it's probably less likely to be offensive. But it's nice to know I have the other option, and one that fits in my purse, no less. I certainly wouldn't want to offend anyone, but well- it's pretty obvious that I'm egalitarian, so... I don't know. The topic is far from decided.

Aah, not only do I have the opportunity to perform in a parody of a Shakespearean play, I get to perform as a parody of the Bard himself! Thanks, Maya, for being a part in the casting process--the billing looks fabulous, and I'm sure we'll all have a great deal of fun during production.

We're not super-sure: we'll have a real date as soon as Dave books the room. But either April 16-17 or April 23-24, I guess. Said dates are just the ones I was given, they should be Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.

Gabbayyim provide structure, they don't necessarily determine content. You need not have great ideas to do the job, and you don't need the job to execute great ideas. This comment has been written in biblical parallelisms, and in the style of Moses was it composed.

On a slightly different subject . . . human rights and volunteering stuff? That doesn't sound terribly familiar. Where's it coming from? Gee, I'm old.

Incidentally, the LiveJournal spell checker provides the following alternatives to "Gabbayyim": Khayyam, Kaboom, Cubism, Kobayashi, Jobye, Jobye's.

They're from Sarah I-forget-her-lastname-but-she's-a-senior-this-year, very involved in click drive stuff, and Vagina Monologues, etc. She's applying for Rabbinical schools as well, and is getting practice doing Divrei Torah with this as well. She's given 2 in the last few months. Between her and Orin- when we get a Dvar, we get an Intense Dvar- from Very different theories of Divrei Torah. So- if we're already doing different stuff, why not add something from column Q? Although I suppose something from column B or something dull like that would be equally useful...

I like your transliteration scheme. (I seem to be collecting assorted variants, of late. Fun!)

It's a good point (and I don't know why I'm going backwards through your comments at all- it just happened). I just tended to think that people who care enough to do that work would usually be the people with the ideas. I'm sure Hillel and Raphi do have ideas, just that mine have been popping up like mad Since I stopped the gabbay-in-training role amuses me. Or maybe I had them, and they were just smaller and therefore I took care of them instead of thinking about them. (Mind screams: "Bookshelf".) OK, I should go get ready for the day, and try to yank my mind back to where it should be, instead of this aimless wandering.

Very different styles of divrei Torah indeed. Yeah, why not throw in another?

My translit scheme is based loosely on the one used by Koren publishing house when they have a need for one.
