ANyone care to translate the following for me? Simeon's been up to his usual tricks... When he decided to send me everything he wrote, he neglected to absent that which is in languages which I don't understand. Guess I ought to write something in Arabic and send it back to him: his is rusty enough by now that it should have the desired effect... Somehow, I have a feeling this isn't giong to be one of his best, judging from how many Country-related words I can spot myself...
Was ist los mit mir
Ich habe auf Russich und Franzosich geschreiben
aber nicht Deutsch, nein, Nicht auf Deutsch
und warum nicht?
Deutschland, zwischen Russland und Frankland.
Schone Deutschland, mit die gruner felden
Musse etwas auf Deutsch sagen.

I have written in Russian and French
But not German, no, not in German
and why not?
Germany, between Russia and France
Beautiful Germany, with the green fields
I must say something about Germany."
The fact that I could translate it without a dictionary is also a bad sign.

One of these days, I'll actually learn German, instead of just sort of knowing it.

I have with Russian and French written,
But not German, no, not German
And _(why?)_ not?
Germany, ________ Russia and France.
Beautiful German, with the green _(fields?)_
____ _____ with German ____.
I'm sure others have already translated this, but I was curious as to how I, as a non-German speaker, would do.
The having-heard-Yiddish helped, the English helped, and this was fun!
Someday I should really learn a European language.
Thanks for showing us!
