I had two different competing potential plans for tonight: the cantorial choir concert or dancing- I desperately need to get dancing somewhere where I can do some couples dances where there's actual lead and follow happening, if for no reason other than that I stop wanting to dance whenever I'm standing around, which is a silly habit that I'm trying to curb. Said plans quickly became three options: the two above or an early night to bed. And then at mincha, a chance to listen to/talk with Rabbi Gillman and be fed was going on this evening. I chose the last plan, and listened, talked and crocheted. (I've now made a nice kippah that is dark red with gold sparkles: should be good for shabbos and such: now if I can ever finally get the right size hook for the bunch of crochet thread I bought online- they didn't have them at the store I went to locally, I can play with a bunch of other colors now too.) After that, the plan was to do a bit of work and go to bed early. Well, it's now 10:30ish- if I get to bed soon, that still counts as early, right? Even if it's really only slightly before the time I Should go to bed normally- it just is significantly earlier than the usual bedtime.

The conversation was good to hear though: the starting topic was the soul, and things just sort of flowed from there. No answers, but it was accessible enough that I got the gist of what was going on with the occasional gloss from Steve and the nice lady sitting on the other side of me who was a metaphysics teacher, and it's good to keep those thought processes open and working.

Only other events of the day worth mentioning was the fruition of my soup-making and distributing plan from yesterday: I made a big crockpot full of soup and it ended up with 4 sick friends and such and one overworked and overtired friend. It was nice to be helpful, and it gave me that nice little "I'm being useful" burst- can't say some part of it wasn't selfish.

Ok, bedtime in hopes of being far more productive and such tomorrow.

That always does feel good. I tend to find הכנסת אורחים a very emotionally rewarding experience, especially when the guests are very appreciative.

Err, this wasn't hakhnasat orchim, it was just "here's some soup, I've got to run" for the most part. Just being handy, nothing more specific.

Oh, you didn't sit there while they ate it? I see. That's still fulfilling, though much less so (at least in my experience).

Well, I didn't do it so it would be fulfilling, I did it so that my friends would have something to eat that would be warm and easy and that they didn't have to make.

Well, for whatever reason you did it, it was very much appreciated & a very pleasant surprise after a day of feeling lousy :)

Glad it was cheering. I hadn't even known you weren't feeling well until I was fussing on facebook for a moment. So- I guess the internet is useful afterall- for finding out that one's neighbors are sick, if nothign else...

What size hook do you need? We have a couple of well-stocked craft stores in the neighborhood, and they might well have one. I've got a pretty complete hook collection myself.
What size thread is it, and what size hook do you want?

I'm looking for a 5 or 6, but the really little sort, not the letter-number sort. The thread is a size 10. (In other words, larger than the stuff usually used for kippot, but not large enough to be yarn-sized. The thin-yarn sort of thickness is what I've been using, with a B-1 hook.) Does that make sense? I'm getting my info from a friend, so...
