Why in the Lord's name did Shalhevet (the Columbia/Barnard/JTS Israeli dance performing group) schedule their showcasce on the same day as New York Israeli Folkdance Festival, also a performance of Israeli dance??? I don't understand this logic- why the heck aren't they dancing in the festival? And why not have their showcase another time? I'd love to see them, and they're in the building, but I'd also rather like to see the actual festival, which will have a large number of groups, some of them possibly also with folks I know in them. Of course, I have not yet bought a ticket for the festival, but still... Does Shalhevet have some sort of pet peeve about the festival? I know they used to come even to the Boston festival, and haven't the last few years. But still- Weird. It's sort of making me think that putting together some other group to do a small performance in the festival next year might be worthwhile. We'll see.

...maybe they weren't invited to the festival and they're doing this to spite the festival? j/k O:-)

It isn't an invitation thing- basically, you send them forms saying "hey, we want to do this" and generally they say "nifty". I know the Boston festival also wants to see an early run through of at least part of your piece, and know what music you're using, but they almost never object, and when they do, you can generally deal with it one way or another. This is not a competitive thing.

Coincidence?

I remember BORG doing this to BSCF on a weekly basis a while back; I don't think there was bad blood.
