I think I've successfully made chicken soup and matzhah balls, all on my own. The latter were confusing- they're so Mushy before you cook them: I thought htey were going to dissolve and leave me with something ressembling chicken stew. Luckily, that wasn't the case. We'll see how it all tastes.
While I was cooking, I was thinking about how much this sort of thing is interesting to me Because I'm making it for people I care about. If I were cooking for strangers, I think I'd be pretty uninterested. But the idea of doing for people I love- that's what makes it worthwhile. Of course, I haven't done much actual cooking for people about whom I don't care. But when I'm cooking alone, I tend to think about the people for whom I'm cooking. I'd like to think that that means something.
