New Years Eve turned out to be quite an interesting time. I went with my parents and friend steve to an Israeli Dance event in New Jersey. I had a nice time, but it was a very odd atmosphere. I saw a number of folks whom I know and like, and met one or two nice people briefly- but I didn't really get to talk to them. People pretty much hung out with the folks with whom they came or whom they knew well already. So I have a lovely time with my folks and with steve, but that was that.
I did get partners for all but one couples set, which was a nice change from the way things usually have been going of late. During one set while I was dancing with a dance partner from Boston, he basically offered to set me up with his son should I be in Israel. I've never met his son- but he and I have been dancing together when we're both in the same place, since I was in something like 10th grade- I can only imagine how incredibly awkward That date would be, if it happened...
We stayed over at a local hotel afterwards, and Mom and Dad brought me back to my apartment on their way home today. Today I fussed around the house, talked and such, and then kept some friends company while they volunteered at the homeless shelter. (It's something that I admire, but don't quite have the courage for it on some level yet. Someday. It's a good thing to do. Funny though- I walked in, and the smell just hit my brain and my first response was "nursing home". Don't know why- but it's the same set of smells.)
