So I got a call back from Hillel lounge, with the info that a. none of the spaces I'd requested were free, and that no, they couldn't tell me of an unbooked space I could use for running dancing tomorrow. And that we shouldn't expect something in under 2 weeks, and that we might want to start planning for starting in a month and a half, which I think is completely ridiculous. So I just went and filled out a new room reservation form, including the fact that we'd be happy to use a classroom with movable desks that we could get out of hte way. It's far from ideal, but heck, it would work. Next semester I can set this up before winter break, and maybe it'll be less of a problem. But right now, I'm just frustrated- if it was going to take this long, why didn't they tell me that rather than asking if I could start the next week, as if it took no time at all, almost?

I've never had the "privilege" of actually dealing with Hillel myself, but from what I've heard about trying to get rooms reserved, especially a building's worth for a weekend, Hillel is a greedy **** who reserves space entirely disproportionate to its needs. Something like reserving all of Usdan (pre-renovation, that is, and as much of it as was reservable) for services for the entire weekend, and reserving all of Olin-Sang for some sort of Sunday school that had only about 20 kids. If I recall correctly, there was enough room for both their use and our LARPs, which are rather space-hungry uses.

Of course, I didn't see directly what they had reserved, so it might not have been quite all of that space, but it was probably pretty close. Nor would I consider it bad on their part if they reserved everything planning on using all of it (which is exactly what we were going to do).

Well, I was trying to reserve specific rooms through them, because Cindy told us not to form a separate club, so I don't have any other options. Reserving a lot of Usdan for services Friday and Saturday would actually make sense- BOO is rather huge. And BJEP well- it's a K-7 religious school, and I thought they had rather more than that in students. But well- who knows? Really though, all I need is a largish room with no or movable furniture. But they wanted specific space requests. Makes it hard. This time I just loaded all my other ideas onto the form, regardless of them just giving me 3 spaces. We'll see what happens.

BOO is rather huge.

How huge? I'm pretty sure all they ate was International Lounge, and some of the adjacent public space. I'd be surprised if they had more than about 150 *looks up the actual official capacity* 110.

As for BJEP, that's what I remember seeing; maybe they moved them off to some other building without us knowing.

You're under Hillel; I'd hope that they'd try to help you get a good space.

Yeah, that's about it- but it's crammed, I gather. I've only gone to them when there weren't enough people on campus for an egal minyan, so I don't know. But big is I gather the name of the game. THey're one of the two biggest clubs on campus apparently- or were when I was a prefrosh, and they're bigger now than then. The other is Trisk.

Maybe you only saw a class or two worth of BJEP? I know they have multiple classes for some grades at least- that means there should be at least 20 kids in that grade...

THey're trying- CIndy is great, but well, I thought I had to ask for specific spaces on teh form. Maybe not- we'll see what happens this time, but I'm still frustrated and annoyed with it.

THey're one of the two biggest clubs on campus apparently . . . The other is Trisk.

What about FAB or SCB?

But it does say a lot about Brandeis for the two biggest real clubs to be BOO and Trisk.

Ah -- not just a problem with Hillel. A PERENNIAL problem with Israeli Dance. Why is it organizations give ID lower priority than other activities?

If it makes you feel any better, it's a constant struggle with the JCC here to retain our room. SIGH!

Thanks. I think it was just that the Hillel room reservation process is Realyl slow, rather than other clubs that just go through Conference and Events, there's a whole form to fill out, things go back and forth- it's generally a mess. Oh well. And good luck with the continued struggle with the JCC.
