Congratulations

Mazal Tov to [livejournal.com profile] sharonaf and Phillip on their engagement.

ANd relatedly- I still think that it's odd that in English we're supposed to wish a bride 'Best Wishes' and a groom 'Congratulations'. I don't get it, but there it is, so I'll be ridiculously proper and stick with it. Sharona, best wishes, and Phillip, Congratulations. That announcement made my day.

I didn't even know that. Hmm....learned something new. When in doubt, I just say mazal tov. :)

I've read way too much Miss Manners... Hence I learn these weird things.

Huh. I read way too much Miss Manners too, and I never heard that one. Even if I had, I'd probably still say something along the lines of "Congratulations" for both bride and groom. The "Best Wishes" sounds like some sort of holdover from back when sex was generally considered an ordeal for women.

I can see your point, although I was rather thinking of it in the other old-fashioned perspective that going from your parents' house to a house where you're keeping up the housework yourself, and being in charge of a home is rather difficult- especially since guys tended to be holding down jobs before their marriage, but women generally weren't the primary house-caretaker until they married... Still out of date. But sort of amusing, somehow.

Who is this Phillip person?
HE MUST BE WORTHY!!

I don't know him well, but I've met him briefly a couple of times, and he seems like a nice guy. And he seems to make Sharona happy, and that's what counts...

Oooh, pretty Sharona, with the long curly hair and the pleasant personality?

This brings me much joy! Mazel tov to her!
