I was reading for Professor Kimelman's course in Jewish Liturgy, and whom did I find quoted in one of our first readings? My best friend from high school's father, who is a religions professor, specializing in (Early, I think) American Christianity. Weird. Just quite a surprise, although I suppose that logically it oughtn't be one. It just feels strange to read a quote in your course reading, and know the author of the quote, not just as a professor or maybe a guest lecturer, but as the person who your parents set up carpool arrangements with for rehearsals and performances of assorted sorts, who called your house to find out where his son was, or dress codes for school events, and who has now given my parents two bottles of Sabra (some Israeli alcoholic product) as guest gifts at a couple of parties- two in a row, in fact.

The same book excerpt also spent a couple of pages talking about some quotes from Maimonides' Guide to the Perplexed, coming from the section that I just had to read for class tomorrow. That one in itself was enough to make me send sproingy excited and incoherent IMs to [livejournal.com profile] zodiacmg.

On other topics, I had my first real class of this semester's Ballroom dance class. It has started to feel a bit more like a real dance class (not that I know what that is So much, but well: it was somewhat less boring): she started working on some technique stuff with us, and it was very exciting, even if I don't exactly have said technique stuff down yet, in any more than Very primordial form.

And I'm rather starting to enjoy this exercise stuff. Not the dancing: I've liked that for a long time: it only vaguely is thought of as exercise in my mind anyways- but the crunches and things. It's this happy little reminder going "Hi Maya, I'm your body. I can be a fun amusement, too." [Aside to [livejournal.com profile] belu Do Not get any ideas.]

Oh, Sabra's more than just "some Israeli alcohol product," belive you me. :-)

Eh- didn't know how else to decribe it: it isn't something I've tried, not being so interested in the whole alcohol thing, at least at this point in my life. So it was the only clarification I could think of. You want to elucidate?

Well, there are two kinds, there's a chocolate flavor, and a chocolate/orange.

It's been years since I last had any, so I'm honestly not sure whether or not I like it.

Heck, I don't think I've had any since before I've been legal to drink alcohol. :-)

SO what's with the more? I mean, what makes it different from any other flavored alcoholic liquid?

It's different from other chocolate liqueurs that I've had (sp?) in that it's not dairy. It's also different from other Israeli alcoholic products in that it's actually good. :-)

It's strong, too--at least, I had some trouble drinking it (my family opened a bottle on Thanksgiving so we could each have a little bit).

LOL

(As if I'm the only one who gets ideas.)

Lots of the other folks would at least not Say anything... They'd just sit there and chuckle quietly to themselves.

In any case, a comment like that is likely to give you ideas even if you didn't have them already, so... Oh well.

But doubtfully the same things lj user="belu"> would, at least from most of my friends... It's also a bit of a running joke/reference.
