Sometimes I think that all that Cold War Sci-fi I've read has gotten to me: I just spent some time looking at pictures of Chernobyl, now, and reading about some nut who motorcycles through there, for fun.
Yeah. Gives me some visualation help for the latest post-atomic-war book I read. (The Postman, by David Brin) Makes it in some ways scarier. But visuals almost always do that for me.
I've read a lot of Cold War era SF, too, and looked at that site, but I don't think they're really connected, for me. Reading about and seeing pictures of Chernobyl doesn't really make me think about nuclear war, it just makes me think about how horrible a disaster like that can be, and how careful humans need to be when dealing with powerful things.
