Dancing was fun. THere was some serious amusement, both there and at dinner beforehand- Matt, Samara and I went to Cafe Eilat (why the Heck is a pizza place called Cafe Eilat anyways? It just doesn't compute) before hand, after I was a tad late, because I was supposed to meet them at Rabb steps at 5:30, and I napped briefly and didn't wake up (due to a disagreement with my alarm clock, which MOm's instructed me to throw out after this year, since it doesn't actually keep accurate time) until 5:34. But Samara was on one of her rolls- very much fun: I'm going to miss her next year. But I should get to see her during senior week- another advantage. But I also got a set with Rafi, who's not your world's best dancer, but he's solid, and it's always a humorous advantage when your partner quacks...

Random thoughts on yesterday, and the parental visit, besides my shoe conundrum, based on mom's having put my shoes in my closet rather than leaving them under my bed where they belong. Mom made me throw out 3 shirts, and told me that I need new summer shirts and slacks, and sandals, and that I ought to buy some before I go home. So, anyone in the Boston area interested in hitting Goodwill or someplace like it next week- speak up. It's funny though, Mom sees my clothes and determines that some of them are basically rags, and I see them all the time, so I don't notice. Rather like it's hard for me to notice when I really need a haircut. Maybe this is why so many folks don't see when their cabinets/bannisters/floor is dirty- they just haven't learned to look for the dirt. So, I need to learn to see when my clothes get ragged and old looking.

Even more randomly, I moved money from savings to checking for the purchase of tfillin. I've been nervously putting it off all year, I mean to at least get them before I go home for the summer. I really ought to have them. It's a big step, but I really just need to make it already. Perhaps I can make it one trip along with the clothes shopping, somehow. But darn it, I'm not going to go alone.

If you're buying t'fillin in person, you might want to plan on traveling with a a male friend. Many people who deal in t'fillin aren't too keen on the idea of women buying them for personal use.

That was one reason I rather thought it would be good to get them before I go home- Jewish male friends are available first off, and second, I've been told that at least at the usual Judaica shop, they will sell tfillin to women. But we'll see.

Anyone looking for a male friend? =P

(I guess that is tantamount to "speaking up," eh?)

Er, yeah? If you happen to have time. If not, I think I can stand up to the salespeoples' potential righteous wrath. This'll take some planning- I was contemplating arranging the tfillin shopping trip around a visit with [livejournal.com profile] fleurdelis28- she and I discussed a get together, although the combination is a new idea. Eh, worst comes to worst, I'll do them seperately- but home many times can one really take the commuter rail to a very similar place in a short period of time?

I'd be quite happy to see both of you, too. (Just make sure I'm not, say, in an exam or about to be. What time frame were you thinking of?) I know nutqow went alont and, to my knowledge had no issues. But I went with Lawrence and Zoos, and requested tfillin and they automatically started fitting them for Lawrence. I think there was a strong and possibly slightly mutually amused subtext of, "how about you don't tell me anything I don't want to know, and I won't ask any questions you don't want to answer." It was an interesting little sociological moment, though I'm sure the salesman would have been perfectly polite otherwise. (Zoos claimed he was going to include this in his thesis on contemporary COnservative Judaism, though I don't think he did.) As it was, fortuitously enough Lawrence and I turned out to have the same size head.

Sometime next week? I'm pretty free... Not sure about [livejournal.com profile] thevortex I've got dancing Monday night, other than that, I don't have much (if anything) scheduled.
