The d'var torah that I gave Friday night seems to have actually gone over well. I was rather nervous about it- I wrote it quite quickly, the beginning was a little shticky (I promised that the d'var wouldn't be "why lashon hora will give you leprosy" "my top 10 favorite things about thr study or purity laws" or the like.) But I got some compliments on it afterwards, including a comment from Steve who told me that it was the best and most appropriate for this crowd d'var he'd heard all year. Basically I worked off of an idea from
nuqotw about why this/these parsha/parshiot are located in this place, plus a spin from Steve. I'm not much of a public speaker, so- I was quite relieved.
Friday I took my car in to find out what's wrong with it- I have an unhappy wheel bearing.

You'll need snow tires. Other than that and driving in the snow (think slow and long breaking distances), the cold isn't so hard to deal with: if your car is cranky in teh cold, let it warm up for a few minutes before you start driving. Also, make sure your defrosters work.
