Tallit Katan

I mentioned earlier that [livejournal.com profile] zodiacmg helped me finish the tallit katan I made for myself before he left. And then I let it sit (I must be related to my uncle after all, and his famous letting things age in closets before they're ready to be worn, I'm told) for a few days. Today I finally wore the thing. So far so good. It felt right, I wasn't Too aware of it, but I didn't forget it was there either. I really don't know how often I'll be wearing it: that's still up in the air. But it didn't shift around, or show through my clothes oddly, which was one of the general concerns... We'll see how things go, and hopefully I'll be able to formulate the right approach to this as I go. I'm still experiencing- maybe I'll have more cogent and intellectual or spiritual reactions after I start to adjust. But this seems to be a good decision.

I do that, too! I'm a little scared of new clothing...that first day that you wear something is uncertain and intimidating. Maybe the seams line up funny or it shows something you wish it didn't, maybe it wrinkles up or has weak stitching somewhere, maybe you realise after wearing it for two hours that it's itchy and hot and you would rather be wearing your bathrobe... In any case, there's usually about a week of silent sizing up that goes on before I'm willing to wear something new. :)

Wearing a tallit katan sounds really bold and exciting. I don't know if those are the exact adjectives I want, but in any case, I admire you for trying it!
