I was supposed to fly to Florida this morning to see my grandmother. I was scheduled for an 8am flight, so I left here at 5:45 so I'd be at the airport by 6:30 and have plenty of time to get myself set and wait for the plane.

Instead, I arrived, checked in and checked my luggage, and got into a Huge line to go through security, and they were making everyone throw out anything at all liquid in their carry-on luggage: water bottles, lotion, mascara, pretty much everything. It was kind of ridiculous. And then I stood on that line for 3 hours- so of course I missed my flight. And then I found a line to try and get onto a later flight (along with everyone else), but then the person there sent us all somewhere else, and I had to wait on another line in order to get to a phone where I had to wait on hold until I could reach someone. By that time it was about 10:20. The next flight wouldn't be until 12:50, and would involve 2 transfers to get to where I was going, and wouldn't get in until 9:15 pm (my original flight was supposed to arrive at 11:15am), so I took the credit towards a future flight. Unfortunately, my luggage had already of course flown to Florida. So I had to go to the baggage claim office and file a form to have it sent back here, and I'm going to have to go to the airport again, probably tomorrow, in order to pick it up. But at least there wasn't a line at the baggage office.

Now I have to figure out what I'm doing for Shabbos here, since I'd planned to be in Florida, and my apartmentmate who's religious will be home with her family, and my friend who lives upstairs is home with his family.

FYI

Your computer or AIM account tried to IM me a trojan the day before yesterday. You might want to virus-scan your machine and change your AIM password.

Thanks.

Re: FYI

I know- I'm sorry about it. Why do you think I haven't been online much? I've run 3 1/2 different scans (not including repetitions of the same ones).

<hug>

That sounds generally sucky. Though I'm surprised that your luggage was sent to Florida -- don't they already make a big deal of unloading the bags of people who don't actually get on the flight, for security reasons? What airline were you supposed to be on, incidentally? If by some chance it was USAir/AmericaWest, [livejournal.com profile] sinsofthedove might be able to do something for you or your luggage, though I'm not sure exactly what that might be.

It was Delta- and my luggage got safely to Florida (and now back- it's waiting for me at Logan) without me- I'd guess that in all the insanity of yesterday morning, they weren't quite as picky about removing luggage of missing passengers or something. But they were very good and quick about returning said luggage to Boston quickly. Maybe I can get some mending done on the bus or something this afternoon.

*hugs* Yeah, the terror alert is like, orange now. For flights from the UK to the US it's RED. Which is why they added all that security stuff - it happened earlier in the day over there and I don't think anyone envisioned they'd be adding so many new security precautions. I saw something that said they're actually banning carry-on bags from flights across the pond right now. Which, you know, on a five or six hour flight, that's kind of ridiculous. I mean, do people get to keep their purses even?

Yesterday morning we were allowed to keep our carry-ons, but I hear they changed that a little later in the day: possibly for all flights: I really don't know: a lot of it is hearsay.
