I realized today that I don't own any non-leather shoes at this point, at least not that I have with me, and I think not at all. I know that I realized this at Tisha B'Av, and borrowed sandals from my apartmentmate. So, I guess socks with no shoes it is- probably the slipper-sock things that have at least a little traction. If this is my worst lack of preparation for the holiday, that would be pretty good, though.

Spiritually- well, I have no idea where I stand. Being sick has been a very strange addition to the Aseret Y'mei Tshuvah. We'll see how the fast goes.

I had the same problem! Fortunately I encountered a yard sale today that was selling really junky white vinyl ballet flats in my size. I can't walk in them, but I figure it wouldn't hurt that much to wear partially leather sneakers to shul and then change to the ballet flats when I get there.
