Is it Only Me?

Am I the only one who immediately starts thinking about the halakhic requirements for the creation of a marriage when I hear the currently popular dance Mekudeshet (the words of which are the requisite phrase)? It makes for some very funny theoretical constructs...

I think you're one of the few people who actually understands the lyrics.

Speaking of the dance, I think it's the next Salamati or Im Tirtzi (or in other words, WAY overplayed at every session Gadi dance)

I haven't been to too much regular session dancing of late, so it's still pretty new to me. And I ended up out of that scene soon enough that I didn't have time to get sick of Salamati. But Im Tirtzi- oh my gosh, does it invoke thoughts of vomitting in my head...

The words to Mekudeshet aren't hard, and there are only 9 of them- harei at mekudeshet li b'tabaat zo k'daat Moshe v'Yisrael... The first time I heard the song, I had serious moments of "oh my gosh, I'm so very glad they repeat words, because otherwise singing along and handing your girlfriend anything worth more than the equivalent price of 3 dates (like the pieces of fruit) if there were a few observant folks around as witnesses could constitute a valid marriage. Luckily, one needs to have intention for it to be valid, I think... But still- see the scenarios it brings to my mind?

Talk about a meaningful first dance!

Well, it's a circle dance- so that solves that problem at least...
