I've had an active few days at my parents' place. I got home around noon on Sunday, and my maternal grandparents came over for a visit shortly after I got home. We had lunch, went for a walk, and generally hung out. When they left, Mom, Dad and I went to a barbeque for Mom's choir at the director's place. I couldn't really eat much, and I didn't know many of the people- but it was rather nice to just hang out with the parents and towards the end, the former cantor from the shul where I grew up (which is hiring someone new again now) who was a very influential clergy-person for me showed up (she's now singing in this choir), and it was really lovely to see her. (She made time for me at a time when I really needed it- I was going to quit confirmation class because it was pointless- I wasn't learning anything, and was horribly frustrated with the people who hadn't done any Jewish education since their bar/bat mitzvah celebrations in the class, when one was theoretically required to do the 2 1/2 years of Hebrew High between the two events to be in the confirmation class. I came to shul to find the rabbi, who taught the class, and tell him that I was quitting. I ran into her instead, and she promised that she'd tell him, but she had that hour free (and please note, "that hour" was from 8 to 9 at night), and would I like to learn something with her instead. She taught me to layn, which then gave me a usable skill to be able to wrestle into shape so that I could actually productively contribute to my community when I got to college.) After that, we came home, took a walk, and watched a movie- "Little Miss Sunshine", which I adored, and which had me laughing hard enough that there were actually tears flowing.
Today was less involved, I suppose. We went to the beach, which I hadn't ended up doing at all last summer, so this was particularly nice. We hung out, read, and took a walk- it was Really nice. The couple of spots on my legs that I missed with the sunblock are a bit burnt, but they're small and currently being taken good care of. Next time, I will pay better attention to my ankles when I put on sunblock. This evening we hung out, took a walk, and did some practical sorts of stuff.
Tomorrow I head off to a conference, where I'll be through mid-day on Thursday. I'm not sure whether or not I'll really have internet access, so if you want to reach me, phone may well be more reliable. But they'll be a busy couple of days, so please do take that into account. And then on Friday
