<lj user="jakal88"> was here for the weekend, even if it was a slightly shorter visit than planned- really, it felt all too short, after too long apart.  I guess that's what happens, when the time apart was longer than usual, and the last visit we had was a nice long one.  We both started the visit exhausted- his change of planes meant that he'd gotten up at 3am to get to the airport, and I hadn't slept wonderfully the night before myself.  So the visit started a bit on the exhaustedly-not-thinking side, but got steadily better from there.  Just having him around for the weekend was very, very nice- reassuring, and steady, and lovely.  But the come-down when he left is, as usual, pretty rough.  Worth it, but rough.  I guess it's a good thing that I'm layning tomorrow morning- it gave me a little something that I really did need to get done tonight.

The visit was fairly impromptu- our shabbos plans were fairly vague (epitomized by the fact that I was sort of coordinating dinner with <lj user="zodiacmg"> and neither of us managed to actually invite anyone besides ourselves, so it was just the three of us- but we were all so tired that we had a pleasant dinner, and then crashed), and then we were going to get take out, but the place wasn't doing what we wanted to get, so we went out instead.  We showed up at the restaurant, and there in the other corner were <lj user="jakal88">'s uncle, aunt, and cousins.  We went to say hello, and ended up invited to a family brunch this morning.

The brunch was a little much for me at first- a somewhat snazzier restaurant than my family would do brunch at, and a variety of folks, some stressed, and one a bit of a jokester, who made me a touch uncomfortable, and who was sitting right across from us.  Still, there were some nice parts of it too- I do like these cousins of his, and it was nice to give <lj user="jakal88"> a chance to spend a little time with them.  (Note to self: one of said cousins wants us to let her know when <lj user="jakal88"> is in town again so they can have us for a shabbos meal, since we had them over once.)

This afternoon, we went (ok, just downstairs, but still) to <lj user="shirei_shibolim">'s senior recital, which I thought was a nice mixture of material, generally done quite well.  Afterwards, I got to introduce <lj user="jakal88"> to a couple of folks he'd heard about but not met, or who'd heard about him, and then we ran off to spend a little time together before he had to leave.

Tomorrow, homework, and the like...

I'll ask him about it- but I also am unsure about the how-to. On the other hand, I could just email you a photo... It might even be a familiar face- he graduated our esteemed alma mater two years before we did.

Sorry I did not make much effort to meet him; I had to leave the recital immediately after the recital to meet a friend in Harlem at the wrong train station... it was a long story...

No worries, there will be other chances- and we didn't stay so very long either: we wanted some time alone before he had to leave.
