Explorations in Preparation, and A Trip to NYC

Yesterday, H and I went to see a space (the one we're going to use) for our wedding, and had a preliminary conversation with a caterer, for the same. From there, we went to NYC, spent some time at the Museum of Natural History (H adores dinosaurs, and it made a lovely contrast for me- I'd tried to go there with some previous boyfriends/dates, and it never worked- sometimes more dramatically than others. So going and making it there was sort of a symbolic thing for me. After the museum closed, we walked downtown to meet H's oldest childhood friend, whom he hadn't seen in a number of years. So they got caught up, I met Steve, and we briefly met his wife (and I got to hear a lot of delightful childhood stories). I'd been pretty nervous about it, beforehand, but it went well- I was delighted by how easily and pleasantly Steve laughed. Then he traveled with us to where we were staying (fairly close to his home), helped us find hatam_soferet's building, and we said our goodbyes. Seeing hatam_soferet, whom I haven't seen in Quite a while, was lovely, and I was very pleased that we got to hang out a bit before heading to sleep.

Tomorrow- another trip to my pulpit, and then on Sunday, H heads off to Boston to start his training for his job this year...

Sorry- I put it up on facebook, and forgot to put it up on here. Part of it was that we got engaged some indeterminate amount of time ago (the general gist is that we made up our minds, told immediate family, and wanted to wait a while to have a proper proposal and Then tell friends, but after a while, it felt like we were ready to tell everyone and get to work with the wedding planning, so we started telling people. We've only been together about 5 months, but it feels like so much longer- everything Fits.

If you'd be willing to come here, I've been doing enough train travel that another trip is not something I'm really looking forward to. Perhaps you'd like to meet me in New Haven for lunch at the local kosher restaurant? Otherwise, I can direct you to my parents' home, to hang out, but the kitchen isn't kosher.

I haven't actually mentioned the date yet- we just picked it, and we haven't signed a firm agreement with the location yet- wanted to check with my parents first. But we're pretty much set for July 3 of this coming summer. (Humorous, as my sister got married on July 4 this year, but the date is So convenient for all the people who need to travel, which is many, since H is from the west coast.)

The pulpit is going alright- it isn't my natural comfort zone, nor exactly what I want to do with my career, but it's very good professional practice, and it puts some money in my pocket (or will when I get my paycheck)...

Lovely to re-connect- I haven't been writing so much on LJ of late, trying to get back into the flow of it.

There wasn't exactly a proposal, per se- more a "can you be patient for a while, while I put together a proposal?" and then a realization that we were ready to tell our friends already. Perhaps when we get around to the ring part of things (probably this winter, there are family rings to pick from, basically)- that would be the time for a proposal, but as we've already made up our minds, told everyone (rather a bit later), a proposal seems a bit pointless at this juncture.
