After davening recently- somehow I was in a really remarkable space and I just noticed how much of psalms are really beautiful and powerful poetry- something I actually hadn't paid a lot of attention to before. I mean, a particularly powerful phrase here and there would stick out, and the rest functions for me in many ways as a sort of guiding force for meditation of some variety. And this time just a lot more of my experience was wrapped up in the meaning, and it was really a dramatic difference. I'm glad it happened at a point where I wasn't rushing, and didn't have to skip parts or rush through- because I really lost myself in it, and I'm glad I had the chance to do that. It was just a lovely prayer experience and I felt like I had to write about it- even though this isn't really getting down the sensation of the experience at all.

I don't know, pisukei d'zimrah still feels like what you say- either stuff to fill in the space, or more of a guided mediation thing. I mean, I think about Gd all the time, and this verablization is usually not even what I would have said.

I wish I'll have a great davening like yours one day.

On the heels of Israel, on some days I take such joy in saying everything, and really thinking about the meaning. And then I give a shout- "THANK YOU GD for a great davening." And on days like today, I find that I'd rather not say anything at all, but I force myself to do the bare minimums- and that's "THANK YOU Gd for letting me daven!"

I suspect one reason the psalms are there is that they're so much better written than almost anything rabbis came up with later -- it would be a shame to leave them out just because they lack of specific context.

I remember the point at which I realized I could differentiate good from bad Hebrew writing, still without knowing most of what was being said. It was very surreal, but also neat.
