Yesterday was entirely too long: I was up at 4:20 and didn't get back to my apartment until after 11:00pm- and that was after the nice people at the airline bumped us up to the flight prior to the one we'd originally gotten. That was a heck of a lot of time spent on transit of different sorts. But I had a nice time getting to talk to Steve with whom I was travelling for a good while with nothing else we could be doing besides napping- which is hard to do when a plane is either taking off or landing, which seemed to be most of the time on our flights.
But the wedding was lovely: very human, very honest, not at all a performance. It really fit the personalities of the folks involved, and didn't try to intimidate anyone. And it was really and truly beautiful watching a ceremony where the rabbi officiating was the father of the bride: it had a completely different overtone and atmosphere than any other wedding I've seen. And the party was lovely also: nothing felt forced (except the band every time they started playing after a pause for toasts or announcements or what-have-you: they seemed to have only one starting dynamic: forte verging on fortissimo), and I got to spend time with a bunch of folks I haven't seen in anything ranging from a while to a year. And there was the usual chunk of dances that went between IFD and simcha dancing, and therefore I either knew very, very well or had seen before only at other weddings- which were done by me and a few friends, but mostly by middle aged ladies.
And after it all, I fell into bed and didn't wake up for quite a while- but I'm still tired. Go figure.
