For a planned-out-at-the-last-minute sort of sabbath, Shabbos went surprisingly well. As seems to happen when one Thinks one has enough time, I ended up wishing I had about 15 mote minutes before I needed to light candles on Friday. But dinner was a lot of fun (and I totally did not realize how late it got before everyone packed up and went home: and I even looked at my watch and it didn't sink in until a bit later). I was briefly worried that
orawnzva and
ergood wouldn't get along- since as far as I knew, they had very little in common, but instead we had a lot of amusing conversation about the proverbial chicken and the egg, and woozles with varying lengths of neck. And there was some really lovely singing, much of it quite spontaneous. (including actually pairing the round that starts "hey, ho, nobody home" with the version of Ma Tovu that has an identical tune- if we'd done it again once
fiddledragon produced the words to the third song with about that same tune- "rose, rose" or whatever the title is, it would have been really and truly incredible.) I don't think I've sung with such a musically skilled bunch of folks in ages, if at all- it was really exciting.
Shul this morning had some interesting points, even excepting some surprise at my presence since I'd mentioned last week that I'd be away this week. On my way out, having been one of the last few people to leave, I walked out the door and was about to push it shut behind me when Mr. Hollander rushed up to the door (having left a bit earlier and apparently returned to make sure everything was locked up, as someone had said the door had been left open at some point earlier in the week), exclaiming about how we should never use that door, and making sure the doors were locked even after we'd closed and checked them. It was- a little bit uncomfortable.
Other than that, I did a lot of sleeping and reading. And unlike the last time I made havdalah alone, it wasn't unpleasantly lonely, something I was very thankful for.
