Today started out in shul at KOE in NYC, and has ended up (quite by plan) in CT. Somewhere along the way, I feel like I left some sense of reality behind. Last night I had a lovely shabbos dinner, which I made with
wilperegrine without much coordination beforehand- so we ended up with make-your-own sushi, butternut squash and potato salad, with cookies and ice cream for dessert, but somehow it all worked. And then there was the shul crowd at shul, more of a JTS crowd at lunch, and then we stopped in to watch a bit of a ballroom dance competition going on at Columbia on the way back to JTS proper, since we saw the sign outside the building, and one could just walk in, it seemed. While we were just starting to watch, I heard my name, and looked up and saw someone I knew fairly casually from college, who had been there to compete but was done and waiting for his ride to finish competing that evening- so we talked and he came over for tea, and it was this completely unexpected and quite pleasant surprise, especially since we never knew each other so very well in college. COincidence works wonders I guess. That and, I presume, boredom on his part. (
fleurdelis28 this is a friend of yours.) And then when shabbos was over I threw some things together and headed for New Haven, during which travels I: made change for someone, ran to the temporary bus stop after waiting at the wrong place for the bus due to local construction, and had a brief conversation with a born-again Christian who insisted that she wasn't trying to convert me- but gave me her phone number. I've now met my sister's current boyfriend, who is not at all like I'd expected, somehow. I have tomorrow morning at home before heading off to teach, to somehow get some homework done, and to attend
calliope_epic's engagement party. Wish me luck not losing myself somewhere along the way...
